FYLINGDALES'
STAR PEACE CAMP
ALL RECIPIENTS
PLEASE NETWORK THIS MESSAGE:
Ulla Roder has taken the
initiative to start a Peace Camp at
Fylingdales!
Whoopee!
It will be set up next
Tuesday, 28th May, in the late afternoon,
located at
Ellerbeck, down the hill to the east of the main entrance to
Fylingdales.
Banners will be displayed at the side of the Pickering to
Whitby
Road, so it will be a very visible protest.
People are welcome to visit
or stay at the camp, but must come
self-sufficient.
The camp is based strictly on the principle of non-violence.
Ulla is a Danish peace
activist. She is an active member of Trident
Ploughshares
2000 and has served prison sentences for non-violent direct
action in
opposition to Trident nuclear-armed submarines.
Ulla is opposed to the USA's
National Missile Defense policy, generally
known as
Star Wars. She recognises that a protective shield deployed by the
USA will
allow the USA to attack other nations with impunity. Any
retaliation
by enemies of the USA will be focused on the components of the
system
outside the 'shield', such as Fylingdales.
Ulla recognises that the Star
Wars system cannot function without the
use of
Fylingdales and Thule in Greenland, which is under Danish sovereignty.
Ulla is taking this initiative to
set up a Star Peace Camp in opposition
to Star
Wars with the aim of highlighting the issue, informing the public
and
bringing about a change of government policy in the United Kingdom and
in Denmark.
Here is what she says about
it:
"The
camp will be established because it's urgent to get people involved in
a massive
protest to prevent further development at the bases which will be
used for
Star Wars.
As soon as
the ABM Treaty has disappeared into the history books on June
13th, then
George Bush will ask Tony Blair for permission to upgrade the
bases at
Fylingdales and Menwith Hill for the USA's National Missile
Defence
plans.
It is
urgent to be present near the base and keep an eye on the military
upgrading
and join together in more and stronger protest. It's now or never.
As part of
the Global Network Against Weapons and Nuclear Power in Space we
are part of
a world-wide protest. We will not give up our protest until the
day God
retires. We invite people to join and visit the camp."
Please do what you can to
support this initiative.
We'll let you know when the
camp has got an address to write to and a
bank
account
MEANWHILE Helen John is
managing to keep the WoMenwith Hill Women's
Peace Camp
going more-or-less full time in defiance of the High Court
Injunction
which states she must not camp outside Menwith Hill. More women
are needed
to camp or visit. Pro tem you could send donations for BOTH
camps to
WoMenwith
Hill Women's Peace Camp, P.O. Box 105, Harrogate. HG3 2FE. Please
make
