A Victory for Mr. Bernt Hauge ?

_______________________________

Mr. Bernt Hauge, a Norwegian national, has been on hunger

strike in Trondheim, Norway since January 13, 1998.

Today, the Minister of Justice has invited Mr. Hauge

on February 24th to discuss how the Tamil asylum seekers'

cases should be handled in future.

A preliminary conference on the Tamil asylum issues in Norway

and the current situation for Tamils in Sri Lanka will take place

in Trondheim, Norway on February 14th and 15th. On Sunday,

February 15th, Mr. Hauge will call off his 33 days old

hunger strike.

Bernt has undergone immense hardship to shed light on Tamil

issues and to bring the government of Norway to the negotiating

table. His noble way of expressing solidarity with Tamil people

has been exceptional. We hope you all will join us in expressing

our sincere thanks by sending massages to him:

"Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high;

Where knowledge is free;

Where the world has not been broken up into fragments by

narrow domestic walls;

Where words come out from the depth of truth;

Where tireless striving stretches its arms towards perfection;

Where the clear stream of reason has not lost its way into

the dreary desert sand of dead habit;

Where the mind is led forward by thee into everwinding thought and

action - into that heaven of freedom, my Father, let my country awake."
